The Army recently awarded Remington a contract for 3,600 new and improved M24 sniper rifles. In a major upgrade, the M24E1, as it will be designated, will be chambered to .300 Winchester Magnum, a big jump from the venerable .308 Winchester that has long been the primary cartridge for military sniping.

The M24E1 will also come with a new folding buttstock featuring adjustable cheekpiece and buttplate and a detachable Advanced Armament suppressor with muzzle brake.

The rifle is mated to a Leupold ER/T 6.5-20×50 riflescope built on a 34mm tube. The optic features a Horus rangefinding reticle in the first focal plane for rangefinding at any power level–along with new M5 windage and elevation turrets with 0.1 mil clicks.
