SAAMI Adopts 6.5 Grendel

Alexander Arms, which developed the 6.5 Grendel cartridge, has relinquished trademark protection on the round.

Why? Because the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, better know by its SAAMI acronym, has officially adopted the round.

“One of the primary purposes of trademarking the name was to protect the integrity of the design,” Bill Alexander of Alexander Arms said in a press release. With the adoption of the 6.5 Grendel cartridge standard by SAAMI, the design is now protected, and any confusion in the marketplace as to the specification of the cartridge has been eliminated.”

    Yaaay!

I'll take mine in a short (21" bbl?), extremely light turnbolt, on a Sako mini, Mini Mauser, Zastava 527…
Stainless/synthetic, please. This could weigh four pounds and not kick enough to notice, while doing for blacktail to 300 yds, or it could weigh seven pounds in a wood stock for the recoil-shy.

Anybody know if the 8-inch twist will stabilize 160-gr RNs, or 140-144 gr match bullets subsonic?

    Yaaaaay!

John, You cant fit a 160 or 140 grain bullet in the case with enough powder. The heavest is 130 grain. I used 95gr Vmax out of a 18" midweight barrel on a 10pt whitepail last year and dropped him in his tracks. Doe I shot with it thru both lungs made it 30yards and that was it. You dont need those heavy bullets to get it done. Bill Alexander himself told me the 123Gr A-max although a target round should be devestating on a whitetail. I see Hornady just released a 100gr A-max which I will be working up handloads for as soon as I can get my hands on some. If you want to use the 140 to 160 grain buy a 6.5x55swede from Tikka and you will be good to go.

Great new round! the 6.5×55 Swede was always underrated. The 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 Creedmore are really showing how great the .26 can be! Much more versatile than .243 and the .25's, without the length of the .270 Winchester.
