If there’s a phenom in the U.S. in men’s shooting, Matt is it. He is the defending Olympic gold medalist in prone, and in the 2004 Games he also competed in three position (eighth) and air rifle (ninth). A four-time collegiate national champion as a member of the University of Alaska-Fairbanks team, Matt took some time off after the last Olympics to finish his education but came storming back in 2007--winning medals in three position and prone in World Cups in Sydney, Bangkok, Munich and here in the U.S. Small wonder, then, that he was named the USA Shooting Male Athlete of the Year in 2007. He earned his slots on this year’s Olympic team with a first-place finish in three position and a second-place finish in 50 meter prone.
