Two leading ammo companies recently developed loads specifically for highpower shooters.
New from Hornady is a .308 load that was selected as the official ammo of the Veteran's Team Match at the 2007 Long Range Target Rifle Championships. Designed specifically for long-range competition such as Palma, the load launches a 155-grain A-Max bullet at 2,850 fps.
Hornady has also come up with an M1 Garand load that pushes a 168-grain A-Max at 2,710 fps.
It uses special medium-burn propellants to protect the M1's gas port system.
Federal is offering two new competition loads under its affordable American Eagle brand.
For the M1A there's a .308 firing a 168-grain open-tip match at 2,650 fps, and for Garand shooters there's a 150-grain .30-06 load pushing a 150-grain FMJ at 2,740 fps.
