Mossberg MVP 200 Yd Accuracy
July 29, 2011
As promised, I took Mossberg MVP .223 and the Black Hills 50-grain V-Max load back to the range for a 200-yard test this morning. I'd have to say "wow." Here are the three-shot groups, in inches
0.64, 0.86, 1.34, 1.44
The two smaller groups were on the center of the target, the two larger ones on the right side, which tells me my natural point of aim was off for the right side. Even so, that's a 1.07-inch average, which translates to 0.535 m.o.a. From a rifle that sells for less than $700. Oh, and just for fun I put a bipod on the rifle and shot a 5-shot group at 200. The group measured 2.65 with one shot pretty far out to the right, so I apparently missed the wind on that one. Discounting that shot, the group was 1.25, which is 0.625 m.o.a. for those of you who are keeping score. Would've loved to have shot more, but I had to get back and finish the feature article before sending the rifle off for photography. This article will appear in the November/December issue of Rifle Shooter.
