Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship Clinics Offered in Florida

Project_Appleseed_Rifle_Marksmanship_clinic_FProject Appleseed, an activity of the Revolutionary War Veterans Association, is teaching a host of American citizens fundamental rifle marksmanship skills as well as the important historical events that formed what is now the United States during the Revolutionary War period.

From December 2014 to January 2015, a number of Project Appleseed clinics will be held at various gun ranges throughout the state of Florida.

Participants will be taught marksmanship skills that allow them to be accurate out to 400 yards with iron sights, a standard rifle and surplus ammo. Most instruction takes place at 25 yards with reduced size targets to simulate shots at longer ranges. Students will learn to shoot from standing, sitting and prone positions, as well as safe gun handling practices and proper use of a rifle sling.

Those who attend will also learn a great deal about Revolutionary War history. Project Appleseed's heritage program vividly portrays the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and participants gain a better understanding of the crucial decisions that helped formed this nation.

The Revolutionary War Veterans Association is a non-profit organization, with volunteer instructors conducting all clinics. These instructors travel across the country teaching clinic participants about the difficult choices, heroic actions and sacrifices that the Founders made on behalf of modern Americans for our country's freedom and independence, as well as basic rifle skills.

Below are the remaining Project Appleseed clinics for December 2014 and January 2015:

    • Dec. 6-7 : Escambia River Gun Club, 4020 Rocky Bridge Rd., Cantonment, FL.
    • Dec. 6-7 : Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club, 610 Hurley Blvd. SW, Palm Bay, FL.
    • Dec. 13-14 : Manatee Gun and Archery Club, 1805 Logue Rd., Myakka City, FL.
    • Dec. 13-14 : Volusia County Gun & Hunt Club, 4645 E. SR 44, New Smyrna Beach, FL.
    • Dec. 20-21 : Isaac Davis Memorial Range, located off Upper Cody North Road, Wacissa, FL.
    • Jan. 10-11: Hollywood Rifle and Pistol Club, 2989 Stirling Road, Dania Beach, FL.
    • Jan. 10-11: Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club, 14646 Weewahootee Road, Orlando, FL.
    • Jan. 17-18: Wyoming Antelope Club, 3700 126th. Ave. N., Clearwater, FL.
    • Jan. 31- Feb. 1: Hernando Sportsman's Club, 16121 Commercial Way, Brooksville, FL.

Registration at each of these events starts at 8 a.m., with clinic activities beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m., both days.

Project Appleseed organizers suggest that attendants bring their own ear/eye protection, rifle with sling and ammo, rifle mat and any bug repellent, hats, sunscreen, packed lunches, snacks and water they wish to bring. They suggest a .22-caliber rimfire rifle due to the cost of centerfire ammo, but a centerfire rifle can be used. About 250 rounds of ammo will be needed for each day of instruction.

Marksmanship clinic fees are as follows:

    • Adults: $60
    • Youth under age 18: $20
    • Active duty military, law enforcement officers and elected officials: Free

Additional club range fees may also apply.
