Remington has announced that its popular Model 597 LS autoloading rimfire rifle is the first to be chambered for the .17 HMR (Hornady Magnum Rimfire) cartridge. The 597 Magnum LS has a gray laminated wood stock, 20-inch blue steel barrel, adjustable sights and a receiver grooved for rimfire mounts. Magazine capacity is eight rounds, and the action remains open after the last round.
The .17 HMR is the year’s hottest rimfire. It is based on a .22 WMR case necked down to .17 and is gaining a reputation for its flat trajectory and power for small game and varmints. The 597 Magnum LS has a suggested retail price of $404 and should be available through Remington dealers before the end of the year.
