Winchester Ammo, in partnership with Winchester Firearms and Browning, introduces .25-caliber cartridges to its Super Short Magnum Line.
.25 Winchester Super Short Magnum cartridges will be available in 2004.
The evolution continues for the Winchester Super Short Magnum line. In 2004, the .25 WSSM will be the latest "short-fat" cartridge to roll off assembly lines and onto dealer's shelves.
According to Winchester Ammunition, the high efficiency of the "short-fat" design improves the interior ballistics of the cartridge. With more propellant surface area exposed to the primer, ignition is more consistent. In addition, the beltless shellcase allows headspacing off the shoulder to provide better centering of the bullet on the chamber. The new super-short action of the rifle also maximizes accuracy potential.
Winchester's .25 WSSM Model 70
Like its predecessors (.223 WSSM and .243 WSSM), the .25 WSSM is reported to have equal exterior ballistics of longer cartridges of the same caliber. Per Winchester Ammo, the ballistics of the .25 WSSM are equal to ballistics of the .25-'06 cartridges, with 14 percent less powder and less perceived recoil--all in a shorter action rifle (See full ballistics charts below).
The .25 WSSM is designed with varmints and medium sized, thin skin game in mind.
.25 WSSM Browning A-Bolt Hunter
Additionally, Both Winchester Rifles and Shotguns and Browning are adding the .25 WSSM caliber to the Model 70 and A-Bolt Families.
Because the overall cartridge length of the new .25 WSSM is only 2.36 inches, the short action system on both rifles are a full half-inch shorter than previous WSSM models. Winchester Rifles and Shotguns .25 WSSM Model 70 will be available in Super Shadow, Ultimate Shadow, Featherweight, Coyote and Stealth models. The Browning A-Bolt .25 WSSM will be available in Hunter, Classic Hunter, Stainless, Varmint, and Medallion models.
