Necking down cartridge cases for bullets of smaller diameters has been going on for a very long time. During the 1920s, wildcatters squeezed down 7x57mm Mauser and 30-06 Springfield cases for .25-caliber bullets and produced cartridges known today as the 257 Roberts and 25-06 Remington.
