SHOT Show 2010 Day 3

SHOT Show 2010 Day 3
A quick look at some of the new guns from Day 3 of the 2010 SHOT Show.

Rifles chambered for the .338 Lapua are easily converted to .338 Norma Magnum simply by changing barrels, as the overall length and a head diameter is the same.

Black Hills .338 Norma Magnum

New from Black Hills is a .338 Norma Magnum load sending a 300-grain Sierra MatchKing bullet at a velocity 2725 fps. The .338 Norma Magnum provides essentially the same ballistics as the .338 Lapua, but in a shorter, more efficient case. The .338 Norma Magnum design avoids seating the projectile down into the powder space, which aids accuracy and efficiency. Rifles chambered for the .338 Lapua are easily converted to .338 Norma Magnum simply by changing barrels, as the overall length and a head diameter is the same. Long range shooters who apply their skill at ranges of 1500 yards are finding that this cartridge is one of the very best ways to hit those distant targets.

Bushnell Zoom Dot

The new Bushnell Zoom Dot is for shooters looking for a rugged easy to use electronic dot sight. The sight works equally well on both handguns and tactical style rifles. It comes with a quick mount system to attach to Weaver or Picatinny style rails with a 5:1 clamping force, keeping the scope firmly mounted under heavy recoil.

The Zoom Dot features a 30 mm tube. By simply turning the knob on the side, the dot size is easily changed in size from 1 to 10 MOA.

Component Fusion Bullets

Recommended

Fusion Ammunition was introduced a few years ago for the deer hunter who wanted a superior product at a competitive price. Fusion utilizes technology that bonds the jacket to the core one molecule at a time for impressive toughness. This was originally introduced in only centerfire rifle, but is now available for all disciplines of modern deer hunting. This youthful, aggressive brand has done well, and this success created a demand for component bullets.

Key features and benefits of Fusion bullets include a perfectly uniform jacket with a skived, pre-programed nose for consistent and reliable expansion.

Several rifle and handgun component bullets are offered ranging from 95-grain .243 to 225-grain .338 on the rifle side and from 158-grain .357 to 325-grain .500 on the handgun side.

Key features and benefits of Fusion bullets include a perfectly uniform jacket with a skived, pre-programed nose for consistent and reliable expansion. The plating of the jacket to the core results in maximum weight retention for deep penetration.

The GMX consistently delivers more than 95% weight retention and 1.5x original diameter expansion.

Hornady GMX Component Bullets

For 2010 Hornady is expanding its popular line of GMX Gilding Metal eXpanding component bullets to include new calibers. The line now consists of .243" 80-grain, .257" 110-grain, 6.5mm 120-grain, .308" 150-grain and .338" 185-grain bullets. One of the benefits found in using gilding metal is that it reduces pressure and fouling that is often associated with "all copper" bullets. The GMX consistently delivers more than 95% weight retention and 1.5x original diameter expansion. Other features include stream

lined design for ultra-flat trajectories, devastating terminal performance across a wide velocity range, and gilding metal construction and double cannelures to reduce fouling. Handloaders will be happy to know that GMX bullets are compatible with conventional reloading data, and deliver the same external ballistics as SST bullets of the same weight.

Nightforce Hi-Speed Dials

The new Hi-Speed adjustments are available on all Nightforce NXS scopes (with the exception of Compact models). The patented Nightforce ZeroStop feature, allowing an instant tactile return to the shooter's chosen zero point, is also available on most Nightforce scopes.

In addition, the Nightforce 8-32x56 NXS and 12-42x56 NXS riflescopes are now available in two click-value options: one with .250 MOA (1/4 MOA) adjustments (20 MOA per complete rotation) and the other with .125 MOA (1/8 MOA) adjustments (10 MOA per complete rotation).

The new RIPR provides a central power source for weapon mounted accessories.

RESET RIPR

The RIPR is an integrated rail system that attaches to standard M-1913 Picatinny rails used on the vast majority of rifles, shotguns, submachine guns or machine guns. The co-witness ability with the full length 1/2-inch riser accommodates power for the accessories that are employed on the firearm. Power is transferred through the electronically isolated gold plated contact pads that are protected in the rail grooves and spaced to eliminate any possibility of electrical short or physical damage. Data may also be transmitted opening a new avenue for accessory design. The new RIPR provides a central power source for weapon mounted accessories that eliminates the need for separate cells and excessive battery types.

New Zeiss Victory Diavari FL Riflescope Line

Carl Zeiss introduced three high-performance riflescopes with state-of-the-art FL glass for superior image performance, maximum precision and absolute accuracy at long ranges - the Victory Diavari 4-16x50 T* FL, Victory Diavari 6-24x56 T* FL and Victory Diavari 6-24x72 T* FL.

Originally designed for professional marksmen in European law enforcement and the military, the 6-24x72 T* FL is now a favorite among the most technically skilled long-range marksmen and competitive shooters in the United States. Its accuracy at extreme distances and breathtaking light gathering ability are legendary, and this newest Victory 6-24x72 T* FL model now features a 1/4 MOA click adjustment value. With the addition of the new 4-16x50 T* FL and 6-24x56 T* FL models, there are even more options for those long-range hunters and shooters demanding the absolute finest in a riflescope.

Zeiss FL riflescopes feature visibly higher resolution, no color fringing and images that are brighter and sharper to reveal the finest details at extremely long distances. This is a distinct advantage, especially if the target is small. The FL riflescopes are also the most compact long-range riflescopes in their class and deliver high power with as yet unmatched suppression of chromatic aberration.

The LotuTec water-repellant coating on all Zeiss Victory optics ensures that the image remains clear even in the rain, and the super smooth lens surface that this coating creates allows dirt, grease and grime to be wiped away with ease.

The Victory FL riflescopes also feature innovative ballistic compensation options--the highly-acclaimed Rapid-Z Ballistic Reticles and Zeiss Bullet Drop Compensator (BDC) "Hunting" and "Shooting" Turrets. These BDC Turrets can be set to a specific target distance by a simple twist of the indexed dial, and the Rapid-Z's numbered hold-over lines correspond to the relevant shooting distances.
