7 Top .17 HMR (Hornady Magnum Rimfire) Rifles

Rifles chambered in .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire (HMR) are ideal for varmint hunting out to 200 yards in low- to no-wind conditions. Here are seven top options from most to least expensive.

7 Top .17 HMR (Hornady Magnum Rimfire) Rifles

Today’s .17 HMR rifles run the gamut from sporting rifles such as the CZ 457 American Combo to the AR-inspired Ruger Precision rimfire rifle.

Hornady’s .17 HMR has set the varmint world ablaze as a wonderfully accurate, light-kicking, hard-hitting and flat-shooting little rimfire. Sure, a puff of wind will send bullets on a cook’s tour, but until the wind picks up, there’s honest performance out to 200 yards—something the .22 LR and WMR don’t offer. The cartridge’s popularity has resulted in plenty of options when it comes to rifles. Following are some of the best, presented from least expensive to most expensive. All prices are manufacturer suggested retail unless otherwise noted.

The stock is stippled for a sure grip, and dual swivel studs are handy for attaching a sling. Finish is blue, Weaver-style scope bases are provided. Overall length is 40 inches and weight is very light at 4.5 pounds. $252, Mossberg.com
